Is a restroom trailer the same as a porta potty?
No. A restroom trailer is a towed room with flushing toilets, running-water sinks, mirrors and air conditioning, parked on its own wheels and plugged into an outlet. A porta potty is a single plastic stall with a holding tank and no power. In 1 of the 2 trailer calls we reviewed, the request was first mistaken for a porta potty.
That mix-up happens because people say "restroom" for both. The caller planning a son's outdoor wedding asked for a restroom, and the person on the line heard porta potty. Say "trailer" when you call us, and we repeat it back.
| Restroom trailer | Porta potty | |
|---|---|---|
| Toilets | Flushing, 2 or more stalls | 1 seat over a tank |
| Sinks | Running water, mirrors | None (deluxe has 1) |
| A/C | Yes | No, roof vent only |
| Power | 120V outlet within 100 ft | None |
| Space | Level strip, 20–30 ft long | About 4 × 4 ft |
| Steps | Yes, up to the door | No |
callers asked for a restroom trailer, and both were planning weddings. Both had power and water on site, and both wanted the 2-stall size.

Laredo averages a 100.8°F high in July and about 74 days a year at or above 100°F. A plastic stall in full sun heats up fast. A restroom trailer runs air conditioning off its power cord, so guests in suits, long gowns and quinceañera dresses step into a cooled room instead of a hot box.
Heat changes how long people stay at an outdoor party, too. When a wedding runs from a 6 pm ceremony past midnight, the restroom is the one cool room on the property. Older guests notice first.
Leave the trailer plugged in from setup to pickup. The crew tests the A/C when it connects power, and an outlet that stays live keeps the stalls cool before the first guest arrives. If a breaker trips during the party, the outlet is the first thing to check.

What power and water does a restroom trailer need?
A 2-stall restroom trailer runs on a standard 110V/120V household outlet within 100 feet. Larger trailers need a 120V outlet within 100 feet that we confirm before booking. Water is optional: the trailer carries its own tank, and a garden hose can keep it topped up. One wedding-venue caller had exactly that, a 110V outlet and a hose.
- Find the outlet first. Garage, patio or barn outlets all count. Measure the walking distance to the trailer spot.
- Keep the DJ off that outlet. Speakers, lights and food warmers belong on other circuits.
- Hose is a bonus, not a must. A hose bib within reach lets the trailer run longer between refills.
- No power on the ranch? Pick deluxe flushing units, which need no hookups at all.

How much space does a restroom trailer need?
Plan a level strip 20–30 feet long for the restroom trailer, plus a truck path about 10–11 feet wide with nothing hanging lower than 12 feet. Packed caliche, gravel, concrete and firm pasture all work. Avoid low ground: the September 25, 2025 storm caused 17 water rescues and closed 18 Laredo streets.
- Mind the steps. Leave a clear, lit landing at the bottom so guests in heels are not stepping into mesquite or dirt.
- Out of the photos, near the party. Behind the tent line works well, close enough that nobody crosses a dark field.
- Cattle guards and caliche roads: tell us before the date so the driver plans the approach.
- Private property only. We do not park trailers in the street or right-of-way.
Ranch weddings with rough access: read our caliche, flood and cattle-guard placement guide.
When should I pick a restroom trailer over deluxe units?
Pick a restroom trailer for a wedding, quinceañera or VIP area of 4 or more hours between May and September, when guests are dressed up, or when a venue's restrooms need backup. Pick deluxe units when there is no outlet within 100 feet, no level 20–30 foot strip, or guests are spread across a big property.
A common setup uses both: a trailer by the reception for guests, and standard units by the parking or the catering tent for staff. We size the total with our house method of 1 unit per 50 guests for 4 hours, then place the trailer where it matters most.

What planners asked about trailers
“Do you have the restroom port-a-potty, the restroom trailer?”
“Is it a two-stall? What sizes do the trailers come in?”
“Does a restroom trailer need water and electricity?”
“Does the trailer price include setup?”
“Is it by the day, or by the event?”

Can a restroom trailer stay for a multi-day festival or VIP area?
Yes. A restroom trailer stays on site for the whole event weekend at 1 price, and multi-day events such as WBCA weekends, fairs and tournaments can add nightly service. Each visit pumps the tanks, cleans the stalls and sinks, refills fresh water and restocks paper, soap and towels before the next morning's crowd.
For a festival, the trailer usually serves a sponsor tent, a performers' area or a paid VIP section, while banks of standard units handle general admission. That keeps the trailer's line short and its floors clean through day two.
- Tell us the gate hours. Night service is scheduled after the crowd leaves, so the crew can reach the trailer.
- Count the general crowd separately. Size the standard units with the event calculator, then add the trailer for the VIP area.
- Add 1 accessible unit beside the trailer, since the trailer has steps.
How does a restroom trailer rental work for a wedding weekend?
A wedding-weekend restroom trailer rental takes 5 steps: hold the date, send a photo of the spot and the outlet, get the owner's OK, take a Thursday or Friday drop, and a Monday pickup. Book well ahead for fall Saturdays and the WBCA season from mid-January to late February.
- Hold the date. Event dates are held once paid in full; your reservation number arrives by text.
- Send a photo of the parking spot and the outlet, with the distance between them.
- Confirm with the owner if the venue or quinta is not yours.
- Drop and setup in a 4-hour window. The crew levels the trailer, plugs in, connects the hose if there is one, and tests the A/C.
- Pickup Monday, at no extra rental charge. Nobody needs to be there.
