Sizing

How many porta potties do I need for my party?

Plan 1 standard porta potty for every 50 guests at a party of up to 4 hours, and 1 per 35 guests when the party runs 4 to 8 hours. Add 1 unit per 100 guests when beer or a bar is served. A 60-guest, 5-hour birthday needs 2 units, not 1.

Our house method, rounded up. Quinceañeras, showers and other mostly-female crowds add 1 more unit per 100 guests. The full porta potty sizing guide covers overnight events and summer add-ons.

Event porta potty calculator

Method: Jason Rental Works house rule — 1 unit per 50 guests up to 4 hours, 1 per 35 for 4–8 hours, 1 per 25 beyond 8 hours, always rounded up; accessible count from 2010 ADA Standards §213.2 (5%, minimum 1).

Worked example

What does a 90th birthday for 60 guests need?

A 90th birthday for 60 guests over 5 hours with a meal needs 2 toilets and 1 hand-wash station. The math: 60 guests ÷ 35 per unit = 1.7, rounded up to 2. One hand-wash station per 2 toilets gives 1 station. Make 1 of the 2 toilets wheelchair-accessible for older guests with walkers.

  1. Guests and hours: 60 guests, 5 hours → 1 unit per 35 → 1.7 → 2 toilets.
  2. Alcohol: none planned → no add.
  3. Food: lunch served → 1 hand-wash station per 2 toilets → 1 station.
  4. Guests with walkers: our advice, not a legal rule at a private home → swap 1 standard for a wheelchair-accessible unit.
  5. Final order: 1 standard + 1 accessible + 1 hand-wash station, dropped Friday, picked up Monday.

One host in our call review planned the party across a creek and a small bridge on a big lot. A service truck can't cross a footbridge, so in a case like that the units go on the near bank, within the crew's roughly 25-foot carry.

From our call logs
1 for 100

One homeowner in our reviewed calls booked a single unit for about 100 guests. Our method says 2 to 3. That is the sizing mistake dispatch watches for, so dispatch asks for your guest count on every call.

Delivery & pickup

When do you drop off and pick up for a Saturday party?

For a Saturday party, Jason Rental Works drops the unit on Thursday or Friday and picks it up Monday, at no extra rental charge. Dispatch gives you a 4-hour delivery window, and the driver calls or texts about 30 minutes ahead. We don't deliver on Sunday, so a Sunday party still gets a Friday or Saturday drop.

Ten of the 19 calls we reviewed ended with exactly this drop-before, pickup-after plan. The flat event price covers 1–5 days on site, so an early drop is never a penalty. More on that in per-event vs per-day pricing.

Placement

Can we show you where to put it on the day of?

Yes. You can meet the driver and point to the spot, text a photo to (956) 396-3700 beforehand, or set out a cone or lawn chair. Five of the 19 callers we reviewed didn't know the spot when they booked. That's fine; the order holds without it until delivery day.

  • Away from the food. Set the unit off to the side of the tent or carne asada grill, not beside it.
  • Level and firm. Driveway edge, packed dirt, caliche or flat grass all work.
  • Easy to reach at night. Near a porch light or string lights for the late dancing.
  • Low cable lines. Tell us; the driver calls first so you can guide the truck in.

Quinceañeras

How many restrooms does a 150-guest quinceañera need?

A 150-guest quinceañera running 6 hours in October with a bar needs 9 toilets and 5 hand-wash stations by our method. One of the 9 should be wheelchair-accessible so abuelos with walkers or wheelchairs have a roll-in room. In a July heat wave past 6 hours, add 1 more toilet.

  1. Base: 150 guests ÷ 35 per unit (4–8 hours) = 4.3 → 5.
  2. Bar: +1 per 100 guests → +2 → 7.
  3. Mostly female crowd (damas, mothers, tías): +1 per 100 → +2 → 9.
  4. Accessible: 5% of 9, minimum 1 → 8 standard + 1 accessible.
  5. Dinner: 1 station per 2 toilets → 4.5 → 5 hand-wash stations.

Upgrades families ask about

A deluxe flushing unit with a sink near the head table keeps the quinceañera and her court out of the line. For a reception hall overflow or a ranch with power, a restroom trailer with A/C is the comfort pick.

Line the units up in one bank along the driveway, doors facing the party, so the service truck reaches all of them. Our quinceañera restroom checklist walks through the week before the party.

Dogs, gates & fences

What should I do about dogs and an electric fence before delivery?

Keep dogs inside for the full 4-hour delivery window, and tell dispatch about any electric or invisible fence when you book. A standard unit needs a gate at least 48 inches wide. If the gate is locked or a dog is loose, the driver calls you before opening anything.

  1. Book and mention pets, gates, fences and any low cable over the driveway.
  2. Mark the spot with a cone or chair, or plan to show the driver in person.
  3. Put pets away the morning of delivery and leave the gate unlocked or share the code.
  4. Answer the 30-minute heads-up by call or text, in English or Spanish.
  5. Check the unit: paper, sanitizer and a closed, latched door.
Someone else's house

Booking a party at a relative's or friend's home

Four of 19 callers were booking for a property they didn't control. Put the order in your name, and give us the host's name and number as the on-site contact. The driver calls the host, and your invoice and reservation number come to you by text.

Many hosts never rented one before. Two callers told us so outright. Nothing is required of the homeowner except a clear path and a spot.

Reunions & camp-outs

How many units for a family reunion or a weekend camp-out?

A family reunion where 30 people camp overnight needs 2 standard units, because our method drops to 1 unit per 25 guests for events over 8 hours. A daytime reunion of 30 for 4 hours needs just 1. Add a hand-wash station for the cook-out, and keep both away from the tents.

Ranch reunions

Send a map pin and the gate code. Mention cattle guards and caliche roads so the truck plans its route.

Don't tow it

A used unit can't be moved with a tractor or pickup. Pick the spot once, or call us to move it after pumping.

Protect the septic

Big weekends overload rural septic systems. An outdoor unit keeps the house system out of it.

Church & community

What do church festivals and parish events need?

A church festival open to the public should make at least 5% of its portable units wheelchair-accessible, with a minimum of 1 per cluster, under the 2010 ADA Standards §213.2. A parish event of 300 people over 6 hours with food needs about 9 toilets, 1 of them accessible, and 5 hand-wash stations by our method.

The math: 300 ÷ 35 = 8.6, rounded up to 9; 5% of 9 rounds up to 1 accessible; 9 toilets ÷ 2 rounds up to 5 sinks. Add units if beer is sold. Read the accessible-unit rules at the U.S. Access Board, and see our hand-wash station page for sink placement near food booths. Crowds over a few thousand belong on our festival restroom page.

FAQ

Party restroom questions from Laredo hosts

Questions taken from real rental calls, answered by our dispatchers.

(956) 396-3700
We have two bathrooms in the house. Do we still need a porta potty?
Usually, yes, for a big guest list. Two house bathrooms back up fast with 60 people, and a clogged toilet mid-party is a plumber call. One caller put it simply: "I don't have the facilities for 60 people." One outdoor unit keeps guests out of the house.
What's the simplest setup for a backyard birthday party?
One standard porta potty plus one hand-wash station covers most backyard birthdays up to 50 guests for 4 hours. A standard event rental typically runs $150–$225 before tax and a hand-wash station $85–$150, each for 1–5 days on site with delivery and pickup included.
Can I book the unit for my mom's house and pay for it myself?
Yes. Book it in your name with your card, and give us your mom's address and phone as the on-site contact. The driver calls her, not you, about 30 minutes before arriving. Your invoice and reservation number come to you by text.
Will the driver go into the backyard if our dog is out?
No. Put dogs inside or on a leash during the delivery window, and tell dispatch about any electric fence or invisible pet fence. If the gate is locked or a dog is loose, the driver calls you before going in.
Can you deliver Saturday morning for a Saturday afternoon party?
Yes, Saturday delivery is available because we run 7 am to 7 pm. A Friday drop is safer, though, because a 4-hour Saturday window could overlap early guests. Friday or Thursday delivery costs nothing extra.
Can we move it closer to the tent once the party starts?
Not after people have used it. A used unit can't be tipped or rolled until it is pumped, so pick the final spot before delivery. Ask the driver at drop-off if you're unsure; the crew can roll an empty unit about 25 feet.
What if heavy rain floods our yard before the party?
Call us. Date changes are free with 24 hours' notice, and we can set the unit on a driveway or other high, firm ground instead of a low spot. Laredo's September 2025 storm closed 18 streets, so we skip low ground on purpose.
